Streamwatch
‘Streamwatch’ is a very popular programme that supports learners working towards CREST awards, the Environmental Land Based Diploma, Science modules and GCSE coursework.
Learners can monitor watercourses using chemical testing kits with a focus on pollution and the impact of the changing climate on freshwater biodiversity.
Water samples from local watercourses are collected, invertebrates are gathered and then used to identify pollution indicators, how the local community affects the immediate watercourses and the wider implications of climate change upon our environment.
The programme is designed to stimulate students, promote the role of careers in the water and environment industry and encourage the study of science and engineering. Health & safety and risk assessment activities can also be incorporated in to the days study.
Learners carry out investigative work and can use this towards their programme of study. The programme can be tailored towards a Bronze or Silver CREST Award. (CREST - CREativity in Science and Technology - an award scheme for industry linked project work.)
We cater for up to 20 learners and provide all materials required for a full days study.
