Kingfisher are proud to have worked with a number of large organisations, offering specialist advice and research projects, designing education materials and delivering sponsored workshops.
As a team we have a wide range of specialist skills and knowledge to enable us to support organisations that wish to work with, or wish to develop resources for children and schools. If you would like to discuss further or are interested in joint working please contact Jayne or Janet.
Some of our previous work includes:
More recently we have developed a workshop specifically for United Utilities regional outreach programme. All resources and materials have been designed by our team, developed for school children and are fun, stimulating and also link with the National Curriculum.
United Utilities sponsor the Water Awareness workshop, which has continually received 100% teacher satisfaction and 100% recommendation.
How we develop a sponsored workshop
We work closely with the organisation and review their aims, objectives and ethos and then link this to the National Curriculum and the aims and objectives of teachers. We focus on the audience, which are usually teachers and pupils, and ensure that all the activities and resources engage, stimulate and are able to enhance the work in the classroom. From this we create a package of activities that; promote key messages of the organisations; cover areas of the national curriculum; are fun and engaging to ensure the pupils have a memorable time; offer activities that can be taken home, thus raising awareness of the organisations supported programme to a wider audience.
Kingfisher Education are very pleased to have worked with the Lancashire Badger Group throughout 2016 developing curriculum linked materials to form a Key Stage 1 and a Key Stage 2 education pack. Each pack includes lesson plans and worksheets for the classroom, together with activity sheets for children to use independently.
Working closely with Lancashire Badger Group was a great opportunity to develop our knowledge of such an important mammal; the European Badger. We created resources that highlight the need to understand and protect such a special animal, aiming to also engage the interest of children whilst supporting areas of the National Curriculum such as Science, Geography, Maths and English.
Kingfisher Education were actively involved in the development and delivery of a joint working partnership with the North West Development Agency and Keep Britain Tidy, to support Eco-Schools between 2008 and 2011. We developed an Act On Climate change programme, with the aim of raising awareness, supporting a change in behaviour and reducing consumption of water and carbon.
The programme focused on 200 schools in the Northwest. We developed and delivered workshops for the children, water auditing tools for pupils and staff, follow up sessions in the classroom and advice and training for senior management and staff.
The whole programme resulted in savings of: 6 million litres of water (a final potential of 27 million litres), £14,000 for schools (a final potential of £16,000) and 6,000 tonnes of carbon (a final potential of 38,000 tonnes).
Kingfisher have also delivered workshops on behalf of Blakeley's Waste Management.
We have worked in schools throughout the Wigan area delivering a variety of waste, minibeast and habitats and enterprise workshops for primary and secondary pupils.
With qualified trainers and teachers in our team we have delivered a range of projects and courses for Local Authorities and individual schools. As a team we have previously developed lesson plans and sessions for the Environmental and Land Based Diploma, Key Stage 4 students, we have also designed science enrichment activities that support students in achieving the UK CREST award scheme.
Working with Local Authorities, charities and private companies our team members have also delivered numerous workshops, training courses (delivered regionally and nationally) and Inset days for teachers and adult groups.
With over 20 individual years experience in the education and environmental sector, our team are well equipped to undertake research and develop corporate material to aid a company in aligning it's strategy to that of the education or outdoor sector.
In 2014 Kingfisher were commissioned by the Land Trust to research and write a document outlining 'The benefits of learning in an outside environment'. The research and summary document included; identification of present studies, current practitioner engagement and success criteria, summary of the key benefits, an overview of current studies and identification of key national providers or partners of outdoor learning.
We are always interested in working with other organisations and widening our working partnerships. If you have an idea you would like us to explore or an interest in sponsoring a workshop, please contact Jayne or Janet.
